Microlearnings
What are Microlearnings?
Microlearnings are short, focused knowledge units that users can access directly in the platform.
They complement courses and Learning Journeys – rather than replace them. Together, they create a more flexible and comprehensive learning experience.
For users (Learner)
With microlearnings, you can:
Find content via the top navigation and a dedicated microlearnings page
Access short content (e.g. a video or a document)
See the title, content type, and source (if it is linked to a course)
Good to know:
Microlearnings that are linked to a course are only visible if you have active access to the course
For administrators (Admin)
With microlearnings, you can quickly make content available without having to create a full course.
There are two ways to work with microlearnings:
1. From project (course-bound)
Make a resource from a project available as a microlearning
This is only visible to active participants in the project
2. From Resource Library (portal level)
Make material from the library available as a microlearning
This is visible to all users in the portal
When should I use what?
Project (course-bound):
When the material is connected to a training and participants need easy access to revisit it
Material – Library:
When the content is relevant to many and should be available to all users in the portal
How to
Activate microlearning from project
1. Go to “Edit project”
2. Navigate to “Resources”
3. Add a new resource or open an existing one
4. Ensure the resource is set to “always visible”
5. Activate “Microlearning”
6. Save
7. Publish the project
👉 The resource will now be visible as a microlearning for participants as long as they have access to the project
👉 If the resource is not set to “always visible”, it cannot be activated as a microlearning
Activate microlearning from Material – Library
1. Go to Library → Material
2. Select material
3. Click on Actions
4. Activate Microlearning
👉 The material will now be visible as a microlearning for all users in the portal
Reporting
At portal level, you can:
See the number of “unique users” who have accessed microlearnings
It is not possible to track completion or detailed usage per content
Supported content types
You can create microlearnings from the following:
Audio
Video
HTML content
Images
Documents (non-SCORM)
External links
Flashcard
Checkpoint question
Quiz
Xapi
Cmi5
Good to know:
A microlearning consists of “a single resource”, making the content quick and easy to consume
Perfect for shorter knowledge pieces such as videos, documents, or guides
Things to keep in mind
Microlearnings are best suited for:
Quick knowledge bites
Repetition
Just-in-time learning
They function as a complement to more structured training programs
